Residential Chemical Dependency Treatment Program to be discontinued
Inadequate Reimbursement Rates Are The Driving Force
Superior, WI, June 22, 2009: The Human Development Center (HDC) Board of Directors regretfully announces the discontinuance of one of its 30 programs. The residential chemical dependency program located at 1500 N 34th Street in Superior will discontinue services on approximately July 15th, 2009. Outpatient chemical dependency services will continue to be provided, and HDC has a goal of expanding and enhancing outpatient services to compensate for the loss of the inpatient program.
The program, known at one time as the “Recovery Center”, served residents of Douglas County and the surrounding area, providing a 30 day inpatient alcohol treatment program with a twenty bed capacity.
According to Jim Gruba, Executive Director of the Human Development Center, the reason for discontinuing this program is economic. “It’s been tough. There is a great need in the community for these services but we can’t financially make it work any longer. The total amount of funding provided by state and county is capped and we’ve been unable to secure additional funding sources”.
Six to eight staff will be impacted by this decision. HDC is working to place staff in other positions within the agency to the extent possible, and will also be providing staff with training sessions on resume development and interviewing skills.
HDC will continue to provide a full array of outpatient services in Douglas County, including individual and group Chemical Dependency Treatment, Psychiatry, individual, group, and family therapy, Community Support Program case management, Jill’s Place, and a number of Family and Children’s services, primarily delivered in the community or the client’s home.
