We believe that homelessness is not a choice, and that given the opportunity for safe, affordable housing, everyone prefers a permanent place to live. Our Homeless Project serves individuals in Duluth who are homeless and have a mental illness. Many of those we serve also have health problems and substance abuse issues. We provide community outreach to locate homeless persons, and assist them to obtain and keep permanent housing. We also provide case management, employment assistance, transportation, benefits assistance, and crisis intervention. We work closely with other service providers, including St. Louis County Public Health and Human Services, Duluth Police Department, CHUM, The Union Gospel Mission, Damiano Center, Salvation Army, Center City Housing, Life House, AICHO, Center for Alcohol and Drug Treatment, and Northeast Regional Correction Center. The Homeless Project is located in HDC’s 810 E. 4th St., Duluth, MN 55805 building.
